HOW TO WASTE OVER 3500 USD OR WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER PAY LARGE PLATFORMS FOR WEB DEVELOPMENT COURSES
Ok, it’s been a while since i’ve dropped F bombs at you.
So, i am happy to announce that this is an F-bombs day. Let’s get to it.
And yeah, before we begin:
to be honest, I’m not keen on writing denunciations,
but life has pushed me into doing so.
This guide is crafted to ensure that others avoid
falling into similar pitfalls in the future.
In my country, there are numerous programming and
web development courses available [here]
, [here]
and [here]
.
We will be talking about the second one on the list,
i just don’t want to type their turd name on my lovely mechanical keyboard.
Because it is so nasty and disgusting!
A year and a half ago, I purchased paid courses with a personal mentor for 3500 USD.
I spent a long, tedious time choosing, trying desperately not to fall into the swamp,
and yet I ended up submerged into it up to my neck.
This was one of the most useless expenditures of my life.
HERE IS A CONCISE & CLEAR
LIST OF ALL DRAWBACKS
Your mentor will explain nothing about your code.
Quote: “Platform policy prohibits writing code for students."
[at best, you’ll get a few links with the words: “Take a look”.
After three or four similar consultations [out of 120]
i have completed learning projects on my own].
The platform checking autobot gave me around 8000 “errors”
related mostly to wrong indentations, spaces and double quotes / single quotes
[when I asked the instructor for guidance on how to proceed i received a “stunning” reply
suggesting to look for automated solutions in the web:
“Look in google for more efficient ways to do this”.
And then, he sent me a screenshot featuring a green checkmark,
implying that once I follow his “instructions”, everything would be fine].
So yeah, feel the vibe of acquiring useless knowledge on removing
redundant non-semantic spaces/indentations and participate in an immersive
simulation of mentorship, courtesy of an “expert” costing > $3500 USD.
The knowledge level of these “mentors” is highly questionable.
[i had two different instructors who, at the very beginning,
discredited themselves by saying things like:
“Don’t use unstable Firefox ESR versions” or similar rave nonsense.
Even on the most basic questions, they demonstrated complete incompetence.
Just imagine their responses to a more complex problems.
The reason became clear later:
these mentors receive peanuts and are therefore utterly unmotivated].
Their learning online platform is riddled with various bugs
[some exercises don`t work at all or function incorrectly].
After paying this substantial sum, not all exercises are accessible and
you`re forced to pay even more if you want to get access to everything.
[just plain greed, simple as that].
Who broadcasts a live stream events at 2 PM on weekdays?
Everyone’s at work! It makes no f#cking sense.
[this is an astoundingly moronic self-righteous behavior, for sure].
Upon course completion the rights to access personal dashboard on
their website are revoked after some time [luckily, I never reached that state]
[nothing new here > greed again].
Based on my calculations, the so-called “mentors” of this atrocious platform spent fewer
than “whopping” eight hours total on me throughout the entire course.
This is around 430$ per hour, not bad for such a scam.
More importantly i learned nothing from this course!
AND LASTLY, THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE!
I enrolled into this mess hoping to structure my web development
knowledge under the guidance of an experienced mentor.
[as you’ve probably guessed, this never happened, all my real knowledge comes
from my own experience building following projects.

Described platform was likely a decent organization back in 2012–2014,
but after the founder left Russia, everything went downhill.
Well, in the end of the day that’s not our problem > just don’t repeat my mistakes.
I want to emphasize that everything above applies specifically to large corporations.
You must clearly understand that anything mass-produced and
standardized automatically means low quality, especially in education.
Choose passionate freelancers, preferably native English speakers.
ALL THE BEST LEARNING MATERIALS ARE WRITTEN IN ENGLISH,
[everything else is either a clumsy translation or a mediocre copy-paste].
For example, here is a [wonderful French teacher]
.
He also has a YouTube channel.
PURE, DISTILLED KNOWLEDGE. 100% EFFICIENCY.
From him, I learned more than during my entire self-education
for big money at this soul-crushing company.
AND FINALLY: in the light of the rise of AI era, the future of such platforms is deeply uncertain,
as is the profession of software developer itself. Even if the profession survives, it certainly won’t remain unchanged.
Job will be drastically transformed, with significantly reduced salaries. That’s the whole point, folks.
