Hotel Pools ▀ Vaporwave At It'S Best [I Am Quite Late To The Party, But Anyways]

I’m well aware that a fair number of my site’s visitors come here for retrowave music recommendations.
But today, folks, I’ll be covering something different, albeit related and somewhat connected to the aforementioned genre.
We are talking about [vaporwave] . Although this genre fully emerged in the mid-2010s,
I only discovered it now. It’s quite striking (even for me) that I’ve stopped following music trends.

This genre of music incorporates various characteristics of retrowave, chillout, ambient, dub, and phonk styles.

THE MOST ESSENTIAL FEATURES OF VAPORWAVE STYLE ARE:

• delivers nostalgia 80s/90s feeling with 488% amplification
• lush analog and often low-pitched synthesizers from the late ’80s and early ’90s
• extremely thick analog visceral sub-bass section
• frequent noise and hiss artifacts which are common things for analog tapes
• simple but substantially EQed drum section, primarily based on the sounds of a [Roland TR-808]
• often slowed down and heavily transposed rhythms
• distant reverberated incoherent vocal samples, they can be normal or pitched up/down
• deeply reverberated backdrop atmosphere, including samples of [elevator music]

The albums’ graphic design features elements of [90’s web design] , simple 3D primitives common for that era,
VHS film glitch effects, and a color palette shifted to purple and pink colors.

And today I’ll introduce you to the American band [Hotel Pools] , based in Portland Oregon.
This is a one-man project, created by [Mackintosh Braun] .

The most amazing thing about this artist is that despite the apparent monotony of the style,
he manages to never repeat himself, and the vast majority of his album tracks are excellent.
This is such a rarity, especially in a time when everything has become so overused and disposable.
