A little breakdown of things you should know on how effectively use your storage sub-systems.
I’m describing procedure for future me, because i can forget all these marvelous bits of information in a while.
Remember, i am dumb [sometimes, sort of].
- Operating system, temp folder, swap file, repositories and databases all go to OPTANE drive [PCIe4 minimum]
- If you have loads of RAM like 64Gb or more drop RAM disk managers they introduce undesired latencies
- Experiments showed that SWAP file should be FIXED and not less than 16Gb
- Big multimedia data assets like applications, games, videos go to fast NVMEs like WD SN8100 [PCIe5 minimum]
- Disable f#cking hybernation and fast startup: powercfg /h off
- Turn off power savings in windows control panel PCI Express -> Link State Power Manager -> OFF
- Set High performance mode in windows control panel
- Disable ASPM in BIOS ASPM -> OFF
