Absence of wife surely holds some disadvantages and benefits, it depends from which side to look at it.
Of course she’ll prevent you from spending such crazy moneys for various “audio trinkets”.
But at the same time she’ll force you to spent money on the topics
that she is interested more than you, leaving you emotionally undressed.
So ladies and gentlemen we have a pure tie here. Nobody wins, i am amazed how fine-tuned the world is.

Ok, jokes aside and back to the main subject of the article.

Nothing foreshadowed trouble for my permanently empty wallet until I found out about these f#cking headphones.
You can say “Hey, what’s wrong with you? How about already GOOD Empire Ears Raven?”
In this post i’ll try to explain the whole endeavor from in-depth perspective of things.

The main differences that FATFreq implemented dynamic driver into generic version of this headphones.
Anniversary Founder’s edition have been added one more driver for a complete bass annihilation.
As if it was not enough bass.

This baby is astronomically expensive, but since i had an opportunity to grab them for almost half the price,
i just can’t miss out such situation. To better understand the full scope of the adventure you need to know
that there are only 350 [Anniversary version] and 200 [Anniversary Founders edition version] units produced worldwide.
So it is extremely limited version of limited version. I love the recursion.

So what are the main differences comparing with Empire Ears Raven?
FATFreq is a non-US, innovative Singapore-based company that produces earphones mainly for IEM enthusiasts.
And by the way, maybe you already know that Empire Ears announced it’s shutdown in the beginning of the year.

The main thing that there are almost no reviews (at least on YT) of FATFreq Grand Maestro Anniversary Founder’s Edition
because of it’s rarity and extreme expensiveness. So here i am to do the job for you.

Of course, as most of the reviews it is highly subjective and describes my vision of the story.
But at least you’ll have a relative comparison and some food for the brain to think it though during rainy autumn season.
For you reference i prefer to listen to advanced electronic music, with occasional dips into contemporary stuff.
I value deep bass, good instrument separation and hate high mid-to-high frequency sibilance.
So now you completely know with whom are you dealing exactly.

░▒▓█ TECHNICALITIES

GMA = FATFreq Grand Maestro Anniversary
GMA FE = FATFreq Grand Maestro Anniversary Founder’s Edition

No matter what you get plain Anniversary or Anniversary Founder’s Edition you get plethora
of different ways to affect sound output substantially.
So, basically you have multiple IEM bundled into one package and that should be appreciated.
It’s not just VOX switch improving mids [read vocal] it has multiple modules which affect sound articulation to your preference.
And in the end of the day we have more than twenty of sound signatures in one unit. Quite darn impressive!
At the end of the day you’ll probably settle down with one, but what is more important here
is that you can tune the sound output to your preference.

░▒▓█ VISUAL LOOKS GMA

Here are some pictures of expensive “audio trinket”.

It turns out that unit #18 of the GMA model arrived with a loose 2-pin connector on the right ear of the audio cable.
As the result, disappearance of the sound could occur due to the weak contiguity.
Since I am unable to request an official replacement, the issue was resolved at a local pro-audio repair shop,
where the connectors were replaced to ensure a tighter fit.
I consider this issue a typical trait due to a very low-volume, non-mass-production item.
So inaccuracies may happen. Here is a fixed cable.

░▒▓█ VISUAL LOOKS GMA FE

Currently i don’t have ability to upload pictures of the even more precious “audio trinket”.
In a nutshell, in terms of looks the main difference is that the more expensive
Founders Editions has a gray faceplate, not a bronze like not so limited version.

I will do this in a while, so check back post if you are interested.
For now it’s just random picture from the internet.

Anyway, let’s dive into the most interesting part: the audio comparisons.
As test material, I chose the music of [Ozric Tentacles] .
Testbed albums from 2009’s Yum-Yum Tree and beyond.
Their incredibly diverse and complex instrumental arrangements blend
progressive space rock, dub, reggae, ambient, trance, funk,
jazz fusion, new-age, and even folk motifs.
Since they use both analog and digital instruments,
their style easily covers the entire audio spectrum.
On top of that, their music features unusual time signatures
and Eastern-influenced chord progressions.
All of these elements make their tracks exceptionally difficult to reproduce,
making them ideal for benchmarking top-of-the-line earphones.

░▒▓█ RESOLUTION

FE delivers a bit better resolution than GMA version.
Sound is a bit more detailed.

░▒▓█ STAGE

FE delivers more holographic and immersive stage
especially compared to Empire Ears Raven or even Odin.
GMA is almost on the same level as FE.

░▒▓█ BASS

GMA already delivers massive bass, FE improves
it even more and makes bass sound
like you are listening to a large over-ear headphones.
You may ask “But what about Empire Ears Raven?”
In case of Raven bass is like a drone and not so scathing
and less-textured compared to FatFreq tech.

░▒▓█ MIDS

GMA FE is a bit better here, but not by a big margin, just a tiny.

░▒▓█ TREBLE

Both GMA and FE have very soft and not annoying trebles.
GMA FE delivers more transparency to the output.

░▒▓█ SIBILANCE

Both GMA and FE have least amount of sibilance
compared to Empire Ears Odin/Raven.

░▒▓█ PROS & CONS

And now the mandatory section of upsides and downsides.

actually GT2 has an extra high mode, so it is more than a capable DAP]
em…actually i can’t say anything negative anymore

I currently own the FatFreq GMA, but after trying out the GMA FE, I’ve decided to upgrade and stick with the FE.

░▒▓█ HEX OR STORM?

Some subjective words about the most important hi-end IEMs in 2026.

[Mysticraft Hexen] is somewhat trebellish and won’t fitting my taste for sure, how ever it is very technical and resolving.
[Subtonic Storm] has a lack of bass, but delivers amazing resolution and detail, desk-sized DAPs or external amplifier are required.
Even Lotoo PAW Touch GT2 barely satisfied Subtonic Storm and only at the very high amplification preset.
So, earphones such as Storm are surely targeted to a desktop sized DAPs.

Surely Hex and Storm surpass GMA FE in terms of details and resolution, but i’d say these values won’t go more than 10%.

Both of headphones are extremely rare and expensive due to
very low numbered volumes of production and as a consequence have hard to find attitude.
More over, the waiting time after attainment is somewhere around from 6 to 12 months or even more.

░▒▓█ CLAUDE AI COMPARISON WITH ULTRA TOP END DEVICES

I know that such information should be taken with a grain of salt.
But for my tasks Claude Opus 5 model set to MAX thinking is doing really good.

My thoughts are quite simple FATFeq Grand Maestro Anniversary / Grand Maestro Anniversary Founder Edition are not only
collector items, they deliver summit-fi performance to people obsessed with bass frequencies.
Provided bass is not just drone of some kind but highly textured and articulated bass with great attack.
Not a tiny bit of sub-bass bleeds to the mids range. Amazingly devices deliver very solid performance in areas
like resolution and detail, it is not so common thing for bass-forward IEMs.
It is portable masterpiece, which won’t be easily surpassed in terms of performance in the upcoming years.

So, in a nutshell, the FatFreq GMA FE is a true endgame IEM for bassheads,
who want not only low frequencies but also resolution and detail across the entire audio spectrum.

It seems that somebody must stop me at this point, because it turns out to some kind of rapidly increasing obsession.
