The Absolute Maximum Of Ryzen And Threadripper/Epyc Configurations For Windows 7 Operating System
The ultimate goal of this note is to build a configuration that pushes Windows 7 hardware capabilities to their absolute limit.
In terms of CPU threads, RAM capacity and speed, random 4K access times for system storage,
simply put, the ultimate system in every regard.
Currently, I’m still weighing my options: Ryzen or Threadripper?
There’s a chance I’ll go with a Threadripper/Epyc setup just to see how Windows 7 handles 256 threads of pure madness.
But right now, I have a feeling that I’ll stick with a future Ryzen configuration.
It’s less expensive, more energy-efficient, and, more importantly, offers better single-core
performance compared to Threadripper/Epyc solutions.
Components I already own that could work with either Ryzen or Threadripper future configurations:

[1] [Already reported]
as compatible with the AM5 socket
[2] Given the current RAM price surge, it’s very unlikely manufacturers will switch to DDR6 anytime soon
[3] MSI boards tend to offer the [best Windows 7 compatibility]
[4] It looks like the upcoming 10xxx Threadripper series will definitely change socket and chipset.
GPT estimates a 10-20% chance of compatibility with current solutions, so the new-gen Ripper is out of the question for now.
However, we could consider the [EPYC 9754]
for that 256-thread / 12-channel memory insanity.
Note to my future self: remember to disable x2APIC, IOMMU, and Secure Boot in BIOS. Use UefiSeven for GPT compatibility.
EPYC 7001/7002/7003 series are confirmed compatible; newer generations remain completely untested experimental territory.
[5] Fastest storage device in 4K IOPS, even faster than the fastest Gen5 NVMe drives.
Don’t forget to get a U.2 to M.2 converter with decent power delivery,
as the P5810X consumes around 25W, nearly double that of the P5800X.
[6] Fastest [Gen5 NVMe drive]
A solid tactic would be to wait for Zen 8’s release, which will almost certainly drop Windows 7 support
and then pick up Zen7 based Ryzen or already-obsolete Threadripper/Epyc hardware, whatever’s available.
Hopefully, the RAM crisis will be a thing of the past by then.
Ah, one more thing: I often get asked via email about my current hardware and daily software setup.
Here’s a quick breakdown of various puter parts.
| COMPONENT | MODEL |

| SYSTEM STORAGE | [1Tb Samsung 980 Pro NVME] |
| CACHING SYSTEM | [Intel Optane 16Gb] x2 [Raid0] |
| DATA STORAGE | [1Tb Samsung 860 SSD] + [2Tb Seagate ST2000D sHDD] [8Gb cache] |
| AUDIO CARD | [ESI MAYA44EX] [1] |

Now to the software part:
- Document editing: [LibreOffice 25.2.x] [25.8 is possible but requires [heavy workarounds] ]
- Video editing: [Vegas Pro 21] [version 22 works but lacks [stable hardware acceleration] ]
- Video playback: [MPC HC by clsid2]
- Photo retouching: [Affinity Photo 1.10.6] , latest [XnView] for image viewing
- Audio playback: [Foobar2000] for general use, [XMPlay] for tracker music

- Backend/Tooling: Node.js 23.7 handles all webdev tasks, for now, at least
- 3D work: Haven’t had much time for this lately, but [Blender 4.3] is available if needed
I’ll definitely return to update this page in the near future, so stay tuned.
I don’t know exactly when, but it will happen, that’s a promise.
