Ok, we are almost in the middle of the summer. Some words about computer music history to celebrate this.
Onestop.mid is a midi file found within the Windows Media folder on most Windows starting from Windows XP back in the 90s. It was composed by David Yackley. Despite Wikipedia assurance that the main purpose of it was an easter egg thing, music was mostly used as a troubleshooting demo song for Microsoft technicians, which was available on almost all Windows installations.
Desperately need a help of Windows 2000 adepts.
I’ve decided to build a [Windows 2000 Datacenter]
machine. Especially after discovering the news about porting of modern fully-fledged [Supermium]
browser into W2K environment.
Here are the results of my investigations. Correct me and add additional preciseness to details.
Important statements [please correct me if i’m wrong]:
Maximum number of CPU threads including hyper-threaded ones can be 32 [so 16 cores + 16 HT threads is an absolute maximum] Maximum amount of RAM is 32Gb [accessible via PAE technology, which introduces some latency and affects performance a bit, browsing the web i’ve seen some non-clear evidence of 64gb RAM configurations].

Windows 200 is known for very fast performance, even compared to Windows XP and famous for absence of preinstalled bloatware. However, lack of drivers and software cripple system a bit. I was curious about ability to use this old operating system in 2022, maybe not as daily driver, but as a backup machine for secondary tasks.
