I think the OpenAI company has been doing some controversial things lately.
On the one hand, they are certainly bringing us closer to the time when most of the population will be unoccupied, afraid of potentially possible SkyNET.
On the other hand, they are a good thing for those people who don’t have many acquaintances or friends to talk to, or for those people who want to talk about any subject without restrictions and limitations.
Warning! You are about to enter highly theoretical zone.
This small article is a result of a late night chat with ChatGPT about theoretical and practical limits of performance achievable using conventional lithography, so consider it a first collaborative effort of myself and AI. Also i will try to extrapolate this topic to Windows 7 environment.
If you’re a user of an old operating system, that doesn’t mean you don’t want to have a good system performance.
Just a quick note to point out an interesting fact of computer history. Amd recently announced it’s server beast CPU [Epyc 9965]
. Built in 3nm lithography, it supports 384 threads, a 12-channel memory controller and has a whopping 500W TDP. Windows 7 256 thread barrier is finally broken. As for an Intel, they are definitely can send their technology to the museum.

As a long-term user of Android OS i stacked up the most irksome peculiarities. They have been with us for ages, since version 1.0 to be exact.
messed up separation between internal and external storage, which is not clear to a generic windows user, files are hard to find, applications save data randomly either on internal or external storage, logic pattern is definitely broken here incoherent and unclear notification system, with poor organization of priorities absence of transparent file handling, i am talking about file extension-application matching, there is no convenient tools to manage this task And it looks like google will never fix above mentioned facts.
No illusions here, because it is a pretty transparent question and you don’t have to be an overwhelmingly smart person to understand it. Here is a handy list of straight facts about why Linux will always be your secondary operating system and not your primary one:
as of 2024 we have over 600 [!!!] distributions of Linux, just look at [distrowatch]
Why do we need them all? plethora of desktop environments > 50 [if we count only major ones it will be close to 20] As if three variations were not enough?
As you may already know i am using [Windows 7 as a daily driver even in 2024]
pretty much for everything. I think most of the sofa expert’s conclusions about Windows 7’s obsolescence are [out of touch with reality]
. ACTUAL HARDWARE SETUP:
32-thread modern CPU 64Gb of DDR5 RAM fast NVME drive 24Gb of video memory
WHO NEEDS MORE?
Such hardware specs are achieved by [CanonKong’s modern chipset driver]
.
It looks like we have reached the very last driver for the Nvidia 3XXX series of graphics cards. They promised that the final revision of the driver will see the light of day in late September. As of early October, the latest version of the driver is [v475.14]
, released on July 9. But I have a feeling that Nvidia will release another very final version later on, if this is true I’ll update post accordingly.
iPhone was always highly overrated and overpriced piece of hardware.
I remember ramblings from 2013 times when sellout sites like dpreview stated that iPhone was the best camera-phone ever.
Of course it was a complete lie right until iPhone 15, with it’s decent camera quality, but not in all scenarios of course.
Today I learned I was permanently banned from Reddit’s Windows 7 channel. Here is a [post]
where i to take the liberty of writing my own opinion on the topic.
Removed comment:
Dude, malware and telemetry gathering are embedded in official updates. So what?
K4sum1 is doing nice job for the Windows 7 users by compiling modern Firefox called R3dFox.
Decide for yourself afterward whether to use it or not.
Initially, I decided to install Windows Server 2008 R2, attracted by the opportunity to have a server-class operating system with increased I/O throughput in the works. But almost immediately i ran into compatibility problems [no surprise here] with my existing software. Some programs refuse to run because of artificial restrictions [you know licensing mambo-jambo stuff], some of which depend on components that are not present in Windows Server. It’s sort of possible to work, but you almost always run into little glitches here and there, even after converting it to a [workstation]
.
It was more than a two-year long run with [44 thread Broadwell]
, quite a nice heater. I have really enjoyed running multi-threaded workloads on it, but it is time to move on. As you may remember i’ve already tried [AMD in 2021]
, just to make sure that it is possible in a Windows 7 environment. And now i would like to jump on the red train again.
Too large to be good in terms of ergo?
I had the chance to try out the [Dell U4323QE]
beast and here is my opinion on that device.
I have been using neat [NEC PA301w]
since early 2014 and have no regrets about it’s performance. But not long time ago i’ve noticed that screen space has become scarce for my needs and applications in 2024. Even after I added an old 19-inch NEC to the configuration, it still wasn’t enough to feel completely comfortable.
Recently run into excellent rant about Windows 7 operating system. Totally agree with all the things mentioned. Here is a heap of my personal screenshots just to back up this speech.
FIREFOX SUPERMIUM [CHROME] LIBRE OFFICE BLENDER VEGAS PRO SOUND FORGE CAPTURE ONE VIRTUAL BOX CODIUM [VSCODE] GIT NODE.JS PYTHON JAVA VISUAL C++ Plethora of other software including: [7-zip]
| [Discord]
| [Telegram]
| [XNview]
| [Foobar]
that runs actual versions just fine, so i do not understand these comments about the obsolescence of this nice operating system.
You might think that it is kinda ridiculous title, but read on to find out.
First of all you have to understand that i’m not going to share my personal bookmarks with some ugly copro that cloaks itself under the umbrella of free software ideas and use their lame anti-private sync. And i’m certainly not going to use any web service provided by these companies in any case.
Of course we won’t skip that generic rant part about how dumb project managers are for not implementing essential features like bookmark export or the ability to open local HTML files in 2024.
Somewhere in the previous posts i have already done [small rant]
regarding the desired specification of modern smartphone. After fiddling around with the latest [Oppo Find X6 Pro]
aka the best modern cameraphone, i come to a conclusion with myself on how the smartphone specification of my dreams should look like. Consider this as a revisited version of the previous document. And yeah, you will surely see the Oppo review in a while when i free myself up from the daily routine.
Currently we all know that [Ryzen 7950x]
and more importantly [Threadripper 7000]
series are working just fine in Windows 7 environment. Upcoming Ryzen 9950x confirmed to work already, because it is using the same socket [mechanically and electronically].
And now for even better news: [AM5 socket will be supported at least until 2027]
, which means that Ryzen 10950x will work without any hassles also.
So, it looks like the Threadripper 7995wx and Ryzen 10950x will be the last chips to work properly on the Windows 7 platform in the worst case scenario.
Just made fun out of it. I’ve talked to a different versions of chatGPT to see how they will perform.

Ok, i already made some rant-posts in the past [here]
and [here]
. But critical level of shittiness is reached intergalactic boundaries and i must drop another anti-windows 10/11 bomb at ya. So, fasten your seat belts we are going to the most horrible software tech trip ever.
I am not going to waste your valuable time, so straight to the bare facts and they are really bad.
UPDATED ON: 2024-09-12 Added some links and fixed typos here and there. VERSION: 1.1a
First of all, short congrats regarding happy New Year! It looks like that we made another one.
In this long read you will find subjective rant towards to “obsolete” Windows 7 and comparisons with “modern” windows 10/11. This rant is the longest post i ever done on the pages of current website. Degradation of windows operating system is well underway and it looks like process can’t be stopped by any means.
I’m quite satisfied with performance of my current workstation. [44-thread Broadwell]
paired with 64Gb of RAM, fast NVME and [24Gb EVGA 3090Ti]
shape solid desktop tool. However i’m planning distant upgrade to achieve maximum speed in Windows 7 environment. Just to mark checkbox that it is possible. In 2021 i already tried out modern platform based [around x570 in conjunction with Ryzen 5950X]
. System worked without any problems, thanks to modern [CanonKong Windows 7 drivers]
.
Just checked some website statistics and was amazed to see that site visitors are spending around 15 minutes on weighted-average. This is quite an achievement for such small project and it looks like that i’m doing more or less acceptable job in terms of entertaining the actual user base.
Also i find out that spend time is more important than hit rate, because there is a bounce rate characteristics, which describes quantity of people who view only one page before leaving website.
Scavenging github for required information i’ve stumbled upon shocking screenshot, [showing the most recent chrome 121]
executed on good ol’ Windows XP. HOW COOL IS THAT?

Taking into account such news we can consider that Windows 7 is in even safer position in terms of future web browsing ability.

Sufficient amount of small bloggers/vloggers complain about [shadow-banning problem]
on large platforms lke yt, tik-tok an so on. Some of them are trying to investigate the root cause of the issue, some of them just give up, even such legends as [High Treason]
.
Despite the fact that my yt channel was deleted without any explanations a couple of years ago and yes i run into shadow ban issue on tik-tok, when suddenly all your >200 people auditory just stop leaving comments, drop any activities for a week or so and view counters are showing zero i just don’t think that discussed thing is so important in the end of the day.
Surfing through meaningless tier lists on YT dedicated to various Unix graphical user interfaces by home-made experts without even showing them in a proper way and doin’ subjective ratings, i’ve stumbled upon on “obsolete” [CDE]
environment and was interested in it’s 90’ish looks, despite the fact that “expert” narrated that it is in a “yuck” category and not worth even touching.
After jogging through comments i’ve noticed that some wise man mentioned about modern reincarnation of CDE project named [nsCDE]
.
To fully enjoy site in terms of ergonomics make sure to set your browser zoom from 100 to 120%. In such case fonts will match view-port of development machine. Here i’m talking about Linux, windows 10/11 machines [however i highly doubt that win10/11 users will be interested in this website]. For example in Manjaro and EndeavourOS you have to set zoom scale to 120% to surf website comfortably.
Reporting so because website was developed in Windows 7 environment under which all web browsers have a bug to display 100% scale only when 80% zoom is set.
Recently i had [some frustrations]
with Manjaro Linux. Most notable for me were:
not so good compatibility with Windows 7 [dual booting is working, but after Manjaro updated, Windows 7 stopped working for some reason]. some problems with Nvidia drivers strange power management system not properly working keyboard backlit on Dell laptop So, i went to [DistroWatch]
and instantly noticed [EndeavourOS]
, which was already among popular distributions and rapidly climbing to the top.
I often get asked regarding Windows 7 safety especially in 2023.
"Is it safe to use such old operating system?" "What about security?" "How about modern viruses?"
.... …. and many other similar questions.
Funny thing that people who are asking about security don’t give a damn about privacy. Yeah, that’s quite different definitions for sure, but from my point of view they always come together hand in hand.
The main and the most important security police officer is your head.
