The [plot of the movie]
is quite trivial and simple, the main essence of the film lies in stunning acting, outstanding operator’s work, incredible landscape views and, of course, dramatic soundtrack. Luckily it is not epic sh#t with fanfares and other super-hero nonsense. Pure atmospheric ambient drones fill the story with a sense of completeness.

If you’re tired of cliche Hollywood movies that definitely don’t belong to an art and you want to see a really artistic performance, I can suggest two movies by Dutch director: [Scheider vs. Bax]
and [Waiter]
. I think that these movies represent the peak of Alex Carrier. All of them are a fine mixture of subtle Nordic humor paired with totally unexpected dramatic events that will easily dissolve your longing for some really neat fine art.
You can say what you want, but the fact that the 90s is the golden age of the coolest SciFi is an undeniable fact. Despite its rather simple and somewhat childish plot, [FIFTH ELEMENT]
raises quite important questions about human existence. From a design point of view, I like the fact that the movie mostly shows real decorations, not just soulless computer graphics, which certainly adds analog warmth to the movie.
[Save the green planet]
is a totally unexpected find. Tired of cliche-crap hollywood “comedies” that are not even remotely fun to watch? THEN TRY THIS! Nice blend of mature black humor is always a bargain, especially in 2024.

. If you don’t know what i am talking about just listen to these.

Forget about last two [or so] seasons, because they are complete boredom!
As for me, i think that [YOUNG SHELDON]
is a worthy prequel to [Big Bang TV-series]
. Great warm analog atmosphere of 80s.Watched it excitedly in one gulp. A bit too pop, with rare deterioration in scenario quality but very solid in terms of actor performance and overall design. If you have bad mood for some reason this thing will fix you up at no time.
I’m not a big fan of [Godfrey Reggio]
as a non-verbal filmmaker, because of dominance of marvelous [Ron Fricke]
in this category. But [Once Within A Time]
surely hit the spot in a right way. Unconventional mind cleaner at it`s best! Surrealistic post-apocalyptic analog tale with subtle digital flavoring introducing reality shaped into inner brain atmospheric vistas. OFFICIAL TRAILER

It’s been a while since Aki Kaurismaki delighted us with his ultra-realistic dramas about generic people. Movie is surely a gulp of fresh air, clearly marking it among fake’n’plastic main-stream so-called hollywood videos.
Despite the low amount of words [it is a calling card of director] Fallen Leaves is so emotionally fulfilled. But enough of this, go watch film if you care.

Continuing topic of non-boring and more importantly underrated movies. Here is another one. [Coherence]
is a super atmospheric mystical thriller, which is taking place in only one house during entire movie. Surprisingly such fact doesn’t make it tiresome. Film was peeked [here]
.

Tired of boring-linear-dumb movies without proper atmosphere at all? Today i’m suggesting another underrated gem of film industry. Mystical detective thriller [IDENTITY]
. No more about it, just watch.

Today’s reality is a quite harsh and fast-changing landscape. We’ve got outbreaks, diseases, constant price increase, wars. On top of that there is insane autocrat shaking his suitcase with red button. What else do we need to feel alive?
[Leave The World Behind]
is a loooong suspense thriller with unusual cinematic style. I like such things, which stands out from the grey crowd of mainstream sh#te.
The main features:
I almost never do reviews of Russian movies, but this one should be an exception.
After watching Shapito Show i was quite surprised to see how much efforts were invested. [Sergey Loban]
is an author of very experimental [Dust]
, which was released previously to Shapito Show. Shapito brings more artistic value and a lot of joy to watch, because of it’s own unpredictability of events. Film consist of four stories, which are happening at the same time and divided into two parts for better watching experience.
You may already noticed that i post entertaining stuff primarily around Fridays, but today is an nice exception and i’m doing it in tuesday. Most of you know [Jackie Chan]
due to [Armor Of God 1]
and [Armor OF God 2]
movies, but after watching them so many times, they’re frankly became such a boredom. As for early Chan’s movies of 70s/80s eras, they are quite weird and not so interesting to me.
As you may already know i like:
[Black humour]
[Zombie comedy slashers]
[Beavis & Butt-head ]
cartoon Finnish movies [about plain people]
Quite strange concoction? But who really cares? Here is a list of more random films, which are worth to watch. From my point of view of course.
[Home Alone 1]
/ [Home Alone 2: Lost In New York]
[Terminator 1]
/ [Terminator 2]
[Evil Dead 1]
/ [Evil Dead 2]
/ [Evil Dead 3: Army Of Darkness]
[Tucker & Dale vs Evil]
/ [Wild Tales]
[Chronos]
/ [Baraka]
/ [Samsara]
[Office Space]
/ [Human Traffic]
/ [It Crowd]
/ [Idiocracy]
[Johnny Mnemonic]
/ [Nirvana]
/ [Hackers]
/ [Speed]
[Falling Down]
/ [Taxi Blues]
/ [Taxi Driver]
[The Shawshank Redemption]
Films that i like to watch in not so distant future:
Despite the widespread opinion regarding [Seagal’s]
sanity and his tendency to star in a very low budget trash movies i like couple of his flicks.
[Hard To Kill]
► one of his fist appearances on the screen, a little bit excessively touching, but pretty neat [Under Siege 1]
► simply the best movie to date [Under Siege 2: Dark Territory]
► not so good as first part, but definitely worth to watch HARD TO KILL UNDER SIEGE 1 UNDER SIEGE 2: DARK TERRITORY SPECIAL CATEGORY:
Need a really gooood detective movie? Here is one: [Zodiac]
. No weak acting. No dumb computer visuals. Very long, detailed, quite linear, but solid. Film is watched without any interruptions in one single breath.
OFFICIAL TRAILER Imagery by spacedrone808 @Adobe Imagery by spacedrone808 @Freepik
[Bubba Ho-Tep]
is a quite awkward movie, but despite that is worth watching. The main reasons of such conclusion are [Bruce Campbell]
and [Brian Tyler]
. Bruce is surely known for his [Evil Dead]
acting. Brian provided stunning soundtrack, which lifts whole movie to another level.

As you may already noticed i’m fond of good ol’ black humor, which appears as it happens mostly in zombie genre.
[Juan Of The Dead]
was another unexpected discovery. Story about Cuban slackers running into open revolt of American “dissidents” primarily known as leaving dead zombies. Also i must mark the presence of excellent soundtrack, which significantly improves watching experience.
OFFICIAL TRAILER If you have any suggestions regarding films in black comedy genre i’ve missed and didn’t cover them here, please [drop me a line]
.
I thought that zombie horror comedy was already dead genre, but it looks like i was mistaken. Meet the [Final Cut]
. It is a European adaptation of Japanese movie [One Cut of the Dead]
. Just give it about 40 minutes to warm up and reach it’s culmination.

Tired of crappy holywood detective action stories? Here is a couple of really decent ones. Swedish at this time. Quite boring at the beginning, but surprisingly intense in the end. Good acting is also here.
[The Hunters]
[The Hunters 2: False Trail]

I was completely floored by quality of movie atmosphere and yeah, this is true [retro-future-cyberpunk show]
of the 80s, without any strained interpretations.
Pumping soundtrack, marvelous neon illumination with dramatic light beams, excellent design rise quality of the picture to the point where we can safely say “this is classic!”. Glorious CRT monitors, bulky industrial keyboards, cool computer graphics made on fancy new [Amiga]
computers. FILM WAS AVAILABLE IN SUPERB 30 FPS [EAT THIS!
[Solaris]
is the best soviet Sci-Fi movie produced by [Andei Tarkovsky]
. It often counts as direct answer to beautiful and timeless [2001: A Space Odyssey]
by [Stanley Kubrick]
. Although Solaris had far less budget it surely provides plenty of food to the grey matter. Moreover, movie goes even deeper in philosophical aspects than Space Odyssey. So, the film is for those of you who like to think things over.
[Planet Earth I]
and [Planet Earth II]
are probably the best documentary series about diverse wildlife on Earth. Make sure to watch them in high-res!

[Modernized remake]
of vintage black and white [Outer Limits]
of the 60s. Most of series are junk, but beware that in rare cases GEMS can be found. Anyways, serial is recommended for those who would like to experience 90s aesthetics like early CGI graphics, CRT monitors, pagers and "shiny new" cellphones. INTRO WARNING: 7TH SEASON IS A COMPLETE ABOMINATION!

I have pretty strong nostalgia regarding vintage light effects.
Vibrant blast of light beams: such scheme was very common during 80s days.
I don’t understand why movie industry almost abandoned it in favor of generic non-atmospheric CGI illumination. Just check these light rays out!

Deep immersion into 1906. It almost makes you think that you are actually there, very-very close to reality! Moreover it really makes you feel like a time traveler as everyone stop and stare at you.
